I recently was at the Orlando IKEA store when I came across rugs, small and large, made from sheepskin. It was questionable in my eyes if it was real or faux, the worker we asked wasn’t for sure either, his guess flipped from being fake to being real. I decided to contact IKEA to see if they really were real and wether they are from sheep used for meat or for just their fur.
I am not allowed to post the exact response email on here but turns out it is real sheepskin and it is a byproduct of the sheep meat industry. IKEA also stated that they do not slaughter animals or harm any animals, which is of course a good thing to hear.
While it is good that its at least a byproduct and that the sheep weren’t killed just for their fur, by supporting this it is still seeing the skin as just an object instead of what once was an animal, which is exactly what meat producers and people in the fur industry see animals as, objects. I believe we need to change this view in order to make progress.

you self righteous idiot.
doesnt matter if its a byproduct or if it was road kill.
if you’re so concerned you shouldnt think twice of not promoting this product.
all you’re doing is saying its ok to use animals and their parts as decorations.
the line between this and your baby sealskin seat warmer is non existent.
like marijuana is a inro drug for worse things….so is this.
